About Passwords

It’s important to know that Passwords expire every 180 days. Twice a year.

That 180 day counter starts from the last time you’ve reset your password. Reset your password today and it’s good for another six months!

You should get a reminder in your Genesee email about 10 days before the password expires, but never wait for that. Plan to change your password and you should never be locked out!

To reset your password, go to the password reset utility: https://pwreset.genesee.edu

If you have a password, use the SIGN IN option and you will be able to reset your password.

While you’re there, do the Enrollment tab so you can set up security questions. With the security questions, you can reset your password whenever you have problems.

Questions about the utility can be sent to helpdesk@genesee.edu. However, the folk there will not reset a password — we really don’t know who you are from a non-Genesee email address. In that case, you would need to call the help center at 1-866-614-5004 — PRESS 1 — and the folk there will verify who you are and help you get logged in.

Password Expiration Notices — coming to your GCC Email!

About a week before your password is scheduled to expire, you will get a notice similar to this. And this notice applies to faculty, staff, *and* students!


Dear [your name]

Your password will expire on [date and time]. So, please change your NetID password as soon as possible.

To reset an existing password go to this site and SIGN IN — use your existing username and password: https://pwreset.genesee.edu

Once you’ve signed in you can reset your password. Also, click the “Enrollment” tab at the top to set up security questions in the event you have problems with your password.

IMPORTANT – if you have your mail set up on a mobile device (i.e. your phone) you need to remember to immediately update that password so you do not get locked out of your account.

This is a legitimate email. If you’re not convinced and you don’t want to click on a link in an email (yes, that’s an understandable reaction), you can type in “pwreset.genesee.edu” in any browser and it will take you to the Password Reset site.

Then do the SIGN IN to be able to update your password, and you’ll be set for another 6 months!

Password Security Question Setup

If you  have not needed to change your password lately, you have not seen our new Password Reset tool.

It’s located at https://pwreset.genesee.edu

If you know your password, you can use the “Sign In” option and check it out.

When you’re in there, click on the Enrollment tab at the top and set up your personal security questions. You need to use 2 of our questions and write one of your own.

For security questions, your answers must have at least 6 characters… that can be frustrating if you choose the question What is your favorite color and your favorite color is blue…  You need a favorite color more like purple or vermillion!

But there are enough different questions to let you set that up… then when (and not if!) you have password problems, you can use the “Forgot password” link on that screen… you answer 2 of the questions you have set up, and then you are offered a chance to update your password.

Once you update your password here, this will update your Genesis, email and computer password, all at the same time!
