Internship Fair April 21, 2016

Career Services will host an Internship Fair dedicated to those wanting to gain experience in business, human services, criminal justice and health & physical education on Thursday, April 21st, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Batavia Campus Forum. The event is designed to introduce employers and businesses to GCC students seeking internship experience. Local and regional businesses and companies will be available to answer questions, accept resumes and distribute material relating to their available internship opportunities.

Internship positions are for those interested in obtaining experience in:

  • Human Services
  • Criminal Justice
  • Health & Physical Education

This event is FREE and open to both the students and the community!

Job Description: Volunteers of America of Western New York (VOAWNY) is seeking energetic and friendly full-time, temporary summer drivers to receive donations from generous donors within our community.

Job Summary: This highly flexible position is cross-trained to provide support to a variety of areas including, but not limited to, driver, assisting drivers, and donation attendant. Drivers assist in the loading and unloading of goods using safe and proper handling. Drivers must also interact with various donors throughout the community on a daily basis by providing exceptional customer service. The individual must also be knowledgeable in reading maps and having a good sense of direction. Familiarity with the greater Rochester area is desired.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for pulling and delivering orders in a timely and courteous manner
  • Provide service to the retail stores with the coordination and delivery of store supplies and documentation of these requirements
  • Responsible for initiating the timely maintenance of vehicles
  • Must effectively communicate with administrative team/supervisors on a regular basis
  • Loads and unloads variety of goods including clothing, furniture, household items, and maintains a safe, clean staging area
  • Typical day usually begins in the morning when, if scheduled, you depart to pick up donations from our donors or make deliveries of product to our stores
  • When you are not making deliveries, you are working in our warehouse with other associates loading and unloading trucks, identifying pallets, and performing other work in the warehouse as needed
  • Use a forklift and other warehouse-related equipment
  • Some products, sometimes weighing up to 70 pounds, must be moved by hand


  • GED or high school diploma required
  • 2+ years of driving experience required; prefer CDL, but not necessary
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Warehouse experience desired
  • Clean driving record
  • Knowledge of how to use GPS equipment and strong skills reading maps with familiarity of Rochester, NY locations and surrounding areas
