From Stumbling Blocks to Stepping Stones:
Overcoming 5 Key Barriers to Happiness and Well-Being
Nearly everyone wants to be happy. The motivation to find and live the good life is as old as humankind, yet it is only in the past fifteen years that scientists have launched a deliberate, systematic investigation into what enables human beings to flourish. This research effort is called Positive Psychology, and already a tremendous amount has been discovered about how each of us can raise our baseline level of happiness. Join Dr. Susan Thompson as she illumines five key barriers to happiness and well-being, and shows how you can turn those stumbling blocks into stepping stones toward a more enriched, fulfilled, and satisfied life.
Dr. Susan Thompson was born and raised in San Francisco. She graduated Suma Cum Laude from U.C. Berkeley in 1997 and earned her Ph.D. in Brain and Cognitive Sciences from the University of Rochester in 2003. After graduate school she completed a two year post-doctoral fellowship at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. She taught for two years at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY, and is now a tenured professor at Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY. She received training in Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, and is passionate about sharing the science of the good life with both academic and general audiences. She lives in Rochester with her husband and three daughters.
