Greetings, and welcome to the fall semester!
For those who do not know, I am one of the advisors for our chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society. We have many exciting things planned for this semester to share with you!
First, we welcome Eileen Blackwell as a new co- advisor. Eileen, instructor of psychology and human services, was previously a co-director of the Honors Program last year, and makes a fantastic addition to our team!
I would also like to introduce you to our new team of officers. Tom Wieszczyk is not only serving as our president, but is representing us at the regional level, serving as regional vice president of Western NY. We are very proud! Taylor Schutt and Emmeline Vacanti are serving as our co – vice presidents, Michelle Williams is our public relations officer, Rebecca Kruger is our secretary, and Shenique Johnson is our web master.
Barbara Smith, Phi Theta Kappa alumni, and long-standing treasurer will continue to support our chapter among her other numerous duties in the Business Office. We are very grateful.
You’ll soon see us around campus promoting degree completion with our Community College Completion Corps initiative (affectionately known as C-4)! We are in the process of planning a signing event to be held on Thursday, October 4th. At this event, students will sign a pledge to complete their degree, and learn how vital degree completion is to their success. We will also be accepting invitations into your classrooms to briefly share this vital information, as well as information on Phi Theta Kappa in general.
And mark your calendars, as we’ll be hosting our annual “Bake for a Cure” event on Tuesday, October 9th, between 12:00 and 2:00, and our “Walk for a Cure” event on Saturday, October 13th, starting at 10:00 am (more information to follow). Both events help to raise money for those who cannot afford breast cancer screening. So save your appetite for the 9th, and then come walk off the extra calories on the 13th!!! Officers will be readily available within the next few weeks to sell some sharp shirts in support of our events, so keep your eyes open!
Feel free to email me with any questions that you may have. We look forward to working with all of you this semester!
