Description: For five years maurices has offered a summer Field Management Internship Program. It has become one of the most respected internship programs in retail today. The internship is a 10-week “real world” in-store experience. The structured training program allows each intern to learn about and participate in store leadership, coaching of a team, sales generation and motivation, as well as an opportunity to interact with home office management. Interns have an opportunity to network and interview for a maurices management position after graduation.

Who will be a great maurices intern?
It’s an exceptional opportunity that requires exceptional people. Our ideal candidate has a  history of accomplishment in school, work, and outside interests as well as the drive, desire, and determination to succeed. We have high expectations for our interns just as we have for all members of our management team.

The ideal intern has had some sort of retail or service background (not necessarily clothing retail). The individual has a strong interest in pursuing a store management career. The intern is open to relocating after college graduation for career opportunities.

Looking for individuals that have a strong desire to be in retail management and have a 3.0 GPA or higher preferred. Students majoring in Fashion Merchandising, Retail Management, Sales/Marketing, and Business Management are preferred.

What makes maurices’s Internship Program better than the rest?
The intern will spend up to 50% of their time beyond typical associate responsibilities. With a typical work week of 30-40 hours, 15-20 hours will be devoted to reading information, working with Store Manager or participating in management duties. The remaining time will be spent on the sales floor or doing activities to support sales goals and interaction with customers. This work balance will give the intern a well-rounded experience exposing them to all aspects of managing a retail store.

Additionally, two unique aspects of maurices’s internship program include interaction with Home Office management team members and District Manager.

Special Project
With the guidance of the Store Manager, each intern will select a project and take lead role to implement the idea. The project will fall within the boundaries of our Hometown Pride events including Slurge! Party, Fashion Show, Relay for Life, or Donation Drive. The project will focus on sales generation for the store.

Intern will utilize Hometown Pride guidelines booklet for direction on how to plan and execute events successfully. Store manager should offer support to intern throughout the planning and running of the event.

Internship Paper
During the final week of the internship, the intern will prepare a summary paper regarding his or her experience as a retail intern. The intern should determine the topic of the paper by week four of the internship. This will allow the intern time to generate thoughts and observations during their internship regarding their selected topic.

The Summary Paper should focus on one aspect of running a retail business, discussing philosophies, behaviors, or resources needed to support philosophies and what positive business results the idea would have for maurices.

Selection of two $1,000 scholarships will be determined by maurices Internship Committee.

Rate: Paid internship and offered a 40% associate discount.
